Hi. The RunUO code does not exactly replicate the OSI code for what boxes are made at what tinkering levels, making it perhaps difficult to train on our shard. Therefore I am putting forth the various levels to help you train lockpicking better, since the info at stratics is not correct for us:
1. 26 carpentry required to make the box, @ 50 carp you have 100%
2. You need tinkering on same char, if it's there you'll make lockable boxes. You can buy tinkering to 30, so I started there.
3. There are three number or properties associated with locked boxes:
a. locklevel-- what the actual skill level of the lock is, that is what lockpicking (LP) is required to ACTUALLY unlock it.
b. maxlocklevel-- I BELIEVE this is the maximum level of lockpicking that can be gained off this box. No box goes higher than 95.
c. skill required-- this is the MINIMUM LP skill that the game will let you attempt the box with! It is higher than the ACTUAL skill needed--but if you have less than THIS skill in LP, you'll get a message "you don't see how that lock can be manipulated". I have no idea why this isn't the exact same number as the locklevel...in all the runuo examples on locked containers and the dungeon treasure chest info I looked at, they are the same...
edit: if this is set lower than locklevel, you are able to ATTEMPT picking the lock below what you can actually pick it at, thus breaking lockpicks and not doing anything else. On OSI this is how it actually is, with required skill set maybe 10 points BELOW locklevel instead of the inverse here. The upside is that you don't break lockpicks... I need some feedback on this from LP-gaining folks, as it's probably not right to GM LP with one lockpick...
4. The three numbers increase by 8 for every 10 points of tinkering you have, up to 95 for maxlocklevel.

  1. tinkering locklevel maxlocklevel skillrequired

  4. 40              18         67            28
  5. 50              26         75            36
  6. 60              34         83            44
  7. 70              42         91            52
  8. 80              50         95            60
  9. 90              58         95            68

From this, I believe the cheapest way to get LP would be this:
you could buy the tinker and carp skills to 30 and make boxes that would take you to 59 LP, and only require 20 LP to get started which you could buy. Unfortunately, you would then have to make two more sets of boxes to get to 95. So instead I recommend this, for minimum boxes:
1. Work tinkering up to 32 minimum, maybe you can just buy it to this if lucky. Now you can make boxes that will take you to 60LP, which allows you to then attempt boxes that will take you to 95 LP.
--- make tinkered boxes at > 32 tinker skill, work LP up to 60
---make tinkered boxes at > 80 tinker skill, work LP up to 95.

2. Perhaps the skill gains slow down at top of range, though I'm not sure, and on runuo you seem to gain nicely as far as allowed.

Here is the ACTUAL formula for lock levels:

  1. First take your skill in tinkering.
  2. Multiply it by 0.8 (80% of your tinkering skill) and round down.
  3. Here are the related stats from RK's post above:
    • Minimum Skill required to Pick:
      80% of your Tinkering MINUS 4
    • Level of the Locked Container:
      80% of Tinkering MINUS 14
    • Maximum lockpicking skill to gain with that box:
      80% of your Tinkering PLUS 35.

And as RK said above, all crafted boxes cap at 95 for the max.

Between empiracal data and the runuo code formula, we're spot on. The KEY info is WHAT boxes should I make and use to train on. I think my first post is good there. Thx for the forumulas :)

however it's very easy to do and limitations of OSI are not present. I'll post about it soon. Basically try it with 10 boxes or so, anyone can have "a lockpicking house" with 60 boxes and 1000 gp

how i got in 95 really fast.

On your Lockpicker by 30 carp/tinkering
make ~25 boxes, will again to ~60

Next, make a new char with 50 Carp and 50 Tinkering
make ~25 boxes.

Finally, Make of Find a Char with GM tinkering and 30+ carp.
make ~25 boxes. will get you to 95.0

95 - GM will take 5x longer then 0 - 95, but you make some nice bank on looting the chests.

95 - 100 is not that bad if you use the Faction trick.
Heres how it works,
1: Join a faction
2: Kill yourself and you will temperarely lose 33% of your skills for 20 mins.
3: train on level 60 tinker boxes
4: after 20 minutes, you will gain your skill loss back and keep all the gains you made.
5: Repeat

Doing this, it took me 3 deaths to gm Lockpicking. This method will work for all them hard to master skills.

I used 2 different public lockpick houses to work up to 95...when I get some time, I'll go find them again. I remember a short while back, someone was messing with them so the owner may have taken them down.

The one I used was in the southern cornor of luna on the north side of the road. Its Neb's Meager Goods. He has 6 vendors in front
