Hi folks,

Is there any way in EUO to get the actual gump number (in the gumpart.mul file)?

I'm using UOFiddler to make some cosmetic changes (mostly just changing the black backgound color of standard containers to something more vision compatible).

UOFiddler is easy enough to work with - finding out what number in the gumpart.mul file a particular gump is isn't :(

Not trying to use EUO to make any of the changes - they are all being done outside of the client in UOFiddler, but there's a lot of gumps :)
This is on a freeshard running client 7.xxx

Thanks,
Coyote

As far as I know EUO has no interaction with gumpart.mul (though not 100% sure on that) so I doubt there is a way for EUO to tell you the gump number unless you could make your own table somehow.

Thank you, airyina.

That is about what answer I was expecting.

I have a copy of the EUO source that Cheffe released a couple years ago (Thanks again, Cheffe), and I've looked through it, but there's nothing I can see that would relate to gump number - nor is there really any reason that EUO would have to deal with that.

It wouldn't be so bad if so many of the gumps weren't (apparently) identical in the UOFiddler display list.

thanks again for the reply

Groups:
record a macro clicking something in the gump using uosteam and the gump number will be in hex in the recorded macro

Thanks for the tip, Kojak, but I'm afraid it didn't work.

The specific gump I am trying to do some cosmetic color changing to is the one that pops up from your paperdoll called 'Character Profile' (one of the little scrolls at the foot of your paperdoll). On the shard which I play on, the gump has a dark brown background with black text coloring, and it is almost impossible to read.

Maybe just search for the color code in the gump file, use something like paint to find the proper color. Might be a bit of trial and error but you’ll get it I’m sure.

Actually, Airyina I had been thinking of something (sorta) similar.

I'm going to go through UOFiddler, find all the gumps I think need re-coloring, extracting them, then using a graphic editor to add a small little text field of the gump number to them, then re-insert (actually, rebuild and replace) them into the gump.mul file. That way I can just pull up the various gumps ingame, and see what number they are.

I was trying to avoid it, just because it's a lot of tedious work, but it seems to be about the only way - without actually debugging and tracking the UO client code - which I am not very good at. Plus, I have no idea of where in the client I would even start to add breakpoints, etc .

Anyways, Thanks for the help and suggestions folks. It is much appreciated.
